Just because the weather is getting colder, it doesn't mean that your style has to go into hibernation! After having a skim through the fall 2009 rtw runway shows, I found two looks that will liven up your winter wardrobe - plus, I have re-created the looks using items from the high street (because not all of us can afford to spend £800 on one dress!!)

Houndstooth

-Graphic houndstooth adds a lighter touch to winter's black palettes
-Oversized checks, ass seen at Preen, give the look a contemporary cool element

Preen

Dress £35 from Debenhams
Fur Coat from H&M
Boots £95 from Miss Selfridge

Shaped

-Razor-sharp cutting skims curves with super-fine accuracy
-Black and charcoal grey make for a dramatic, graphic palette

Dress from Warehouse
Shoes £100 from TopShop
Gloves £18 from Asos
Tights £5 from Dorothy Perkins

I am absolutely in love with everything velvet at the moment! The item that I want the most is this gorgeous biker jacket by Christopher Kane (but it is £848!!!!!!! ouch!!) it is so so so so perfect! Damn I wish I was rich! :'(

There are, however, some more affordable items on the high street. I found these two in TopShop:

I recently purchased this awesome leopard print body from TopShop, and I've got one or two things to wear with it, but I'm looking for other items to buy that can go with it. I made up two outfits (one using items from TopShop, and the other using items from Miss Selfridge) and I think now I need to start saving up so I can buy everything!!

TopShop outfit: Skirt £38, Shoes £75, Bag £85.

Miss Selfridge outfit: Leggings £35, Shoes £25, Belt £18, Bag £25, Earrings £6.

I spotted some nice vintage inspired things in non-vintage stores recently, so I thought I would share them with you as I know wearing second hand clothing isn't everyones cup of tea!

Cardigan with fur collar by Betty Jackson at Debenhams £95

Lace top from Forever21 $22.80

Sequin cardigan from Forever21 $27.80

Also, I was reading about a really fun club night called Warped. It's a club that 'travels through time' and you have to dress in one of the eras (20's, 50's, 80's or the future!). They have live acts, such as burlesque dancers, and games, such as musical statues! At the end of each era there is a period of time where the appropriate music for that time is played and everybody dances. It sounds like a lot of fun and I definitely want to go to the next one! Apparently the next ones are on November 29th (this sat) and December 20th. It is held at The Mission Room, 26 Exmouth Market, London, EC1R 4QE if you are interested!! For more info visit their website: www.warpednight.com
Here are some pictures from their website. It looks like a lot of fun!

I had to pop into town today to get a few bits, one being a new pair of high waist jeans. Ages ago I bought a pair from TopShop, but the knees would go baggy after about half an hour of wearing them, and even though they fit nicely everywhere else, they were way too big on the waist and I would have to cinch it right in with a belt – causing some bunching! So I gave up on those... then I got a pair from Primark, they were only £12 and they have a nice amount of stretch in them, they have lasted for ages but unfortunately I have literally worn them to death and it’s about time I got a new pair. A detail that I loved about the Primark jeans is that they had a corset effect, with a small zip and 5 buttons, instead of the really long zip and a button at the top, so hopefully I can find a pair with the same look!

I would really like a pair that are slightly cropped to just above the ankle, and they do have a pair like that in TopShop, but I am a bit dubious as to whether they will be any good or not after my previous experience with their denim!

High Waist Skinny Crop Jean from TopShop £35

I thought these jeans by Cheap Monday at Urban Outfitters were going to be perfect, until I looked at some close-up pictures, and the belt loops are on the hip instead of the waist. Why?!?!?!!!

High Waist Skinny Jean by Cheap Monday at Urban Outfitters £19.99

Now these jeans would be perfect!! I love how the high waist is completely over exaggerated. I think they look fierce! Unfortunately I cannot afford to spend £140 on jeans, or anything for that matter!

The Greatest High Waist Jeans Ever from Diesel at Asos.com £140

I think the safest bet is going to be these ones from Freemans. They look quite similar to my Primark ones, and they are only £35.

High Waist Corset Jean from Freemans £35

If anybody knows of any other high waist skinny jeans then let me know! Thanks!

I don’t usually buy clothes from the high street; in fact I can’t remember the last time I did. I had a quick browse on TopShop and Miss Selfridge’s websites and found a few items that I really like:

TopShop check shirt dress £40

TopShop mint silk blouse £38

TopShop sheer ruffle blouse £45

Miss Selfridge pencil dress £45

Miss Selfridge pink pencil dress £45

Although they are from the high street, I’ve noticed that the items I have picked still have a slight vintage look/feel about them. I really love the rockabilly feel of the black and white gingham dress from TopShop, but I think I’ll wait for a sale before I buy that one (or for my student loan to come through – whichever one is quicker!)
