Today I went on a massive shopping spree and (literally) spent every last penny! I am officially broke until I get paid again – eek! However, I did buy some wonderful things so at least I will be poor with style. One of the items is this tartan blazer from TopShop:


I don’t usually buy many things from the high street but this was too good not to. I really love the attention to detail, such as the pleating on the lapels, the puffed shoulders and the gathering at the back. I have been looking for a tartan blazer for ages now, but all of the vintage ones I have come across have been absolutely massive, so I really couldn’t let this one pass me by.

After seeing Suzie Bubble treat herself to the Viktor & Rolf for Shu Uemura paperclip false eyelashes, I decided that it was time I gave the whole false eyelash thing a go. When it comes to make up I have to say I’m not a big experimenter; that’s not to say I wouldn’t like to, I just never really have time. My everyday look consists of a thick black line on the top lid with liquid eyeliner, and has done for ages, even before Winehouse ruined it! Although I have to say mine isn’t anywhere near the magnitude of her eyeliner usage.
So, I thought, if I draw on the illusion of thick eyelashes, then why not just try using actual lashes? After a quick browse on the ever faithful internet, I found a couple of websites that looked pretty good.
The first pair of lashes I found was these ones, with white droplets on the ends of the lashes, which reminded me of a photograph by Man Ray from 1932.

And also, of this image from the back cover of Madonna’s ‘The Immaculate Collection’ (which I used to absolutely LOVE when I was a kid!)

Then I went onto Shu Uemura’s website and found some extremely ornate (and very expensive!) lashes.

They really are the crème de la crème of false lashes! But, if you’re not willing to pay that amount for lashes, then I found similar ones on a different website.

I think these kinds of lashes would be really fun to wear out to a party or club to add some drama to your look. However, for an everyday look, my favourite are these:

They have a kind of Liza Minnelli in Cabaret feel to me which I totally love.
The only problem now is actually attempting to apply them – eek! That’s another story for another day...

I realised the other day that I don’t wear jewellery very often; I have a pair of large pearl earrings that I got from TopShop ages ago and sometimes I wear a pearl necklace, but other than that it just never really crosses my mind. Now, if I had some fabulous jewellery to wear, then we’d be in business! So, I thought that I would really like a cocktail ring, not only to wear in the evening, but also as a fun accessory for daytime too.

I have also recently discovered a website called Polyvore.com which has a massive archive of product photographs from loads of different websites and you can make collages of outfits. I think it’s a really fun way to either plan outfits you would like to buy or just to make inspirational collages of looks you like. I used the site to make some outfits to go with the cocktail rings:

Yves Saint Laurent’s tragic death is not only a loss to the fashion world but to women as a whole. Yves’ legendary designs have shaped the way women dress for decades, and will have influence for many more to come. I would love to own some pieces by him but they are waaaay out of my price range, and I’m not sure I trust the authenticity of the items on eBay. However, it doesn’t stop me making a wish list of some of my favourite items at the moment; maybe I will leave it lying around the house in the dire hope that one or two things will get bought for me. A girl can dream!

I think nearly everybody on the planet has seen the Sex and the City movie by now, and if not they would have at least seen one of the many pictures of Carrie’s outfits. There is already so much buzz around the Dior sandals that hardly ever come off her feet throughout the movie, and I have already come across two copies.

Asos do have a black pair as well, but they are sold out already!
I think my favourite is the black pair from Steve Madden; they look a lot more expensive than the Asos pair, which do actually just look like cheap copies. The shipping from America for the Steve Madden pair is about £15, so it’s not that much more for a pair that look a whole lot better. Plus, I love the snakeskin panels on them. I think I might just have to give in to temptation!

I was just reading on Vogue.co.uk about a website called Pret A Potobello.com that sells “up and coming design talent direct from London's fashion markets”, and it even has a vintage section too!
I think it’s a brilliant idea to launch new designers and looking on the website has given me a kick up the rear to actually go to Portobello Market, as I haven’t been there in ages. Here are some of my favourite pieces from the website:
