I don’t usually buy clothes from the high street; in fact I can’t remember the last time I did. I had a quick browse on TopShop and Miss Selfridge’s websites and found a few items that I really like:

TopShop check shirt dress £40

TopShop mint silk blouse £38

TopShop sheer ruffle blouse £45

Miss Selfridge pencil dress £45

Miss Selfridge pink pencil dress £45

Although they are from the high street, I’ve noticed that the items I have picked still have a slight vintage look/feel about them. I really love the rockabilly feel of the black and white gingham dress from TopShop, but I think I’ll wait for a sale before I buy that one (or for my student loan to come through – whichever one is quicker!)

After just seeing the Sex and the City Movie, I can say that I truly enjoyed it. It was fun and witty, and of course, had a plethora of amazing outfits!
Unfortunately I cannot find lots of photographs of all of the outfits (and her amazing wardrobe that is built for her!) so you will just have to go and see it for yourself.

I have decided that I must go to New York, whilst the exchange rate is so good, and buy a pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes. I have no idea which ones though, so I think a lot of research needs to be done!

I was flicking through yesterday’s issue of Fabulous magazine whilst on a break from re-decorating my bedroom, when I came across this outfit which reminded me of a look from Gucci’s spring 08 runway.

Top £20 from GSUS Sindustries, Skirt £29.99 H&M.

I really love the 50’s waitress feel the shirt has to it, and was looking on GSUS Sindustries’ website to find out where I could buy it, but sadly it appears they don’t have a shop in London. Is this so? If anybody knows of a shop or website I could buy that top from, it would be greatly appreciated!!

Ok... back to work!

EDIT: I just looked on the website again, and there's a shop in Bethnal Green. Next time I'll look a bit harder!

I was browsing through the shoes on stylefinder.com when I came across these beauties:

£12!!!!!! From Primark!!!!!!

Here’s SJP with a similar pair in brown on set of the eagerly awaited Sex And The City movie.

Is Primark actually getting better? Or are these a one off?
The only way to find out is to actually GO INTO the store. The thought of that horrifies me to the core!

After reading about it on Susie Bubble’s blog last week, I finally got around to seeing the Tim Walker exhibition at the Design Museum. It was DEFINATELY worth the wait. It’s so hard to pick favourites as they are all wonderful, but it would take forever to upload all 100 photographs! So, here is just a small selection of some of his fantastic photography:

Oh, and I just read that Patricia Field is going to be doing a 35 piece collection for M&S

“I have conceptualised the line as Destination Style New York and it consists of iconic womenswear including matching accessories. I like to see it as an expression of my philosophy of 'the democratisation of luxury’.”

Apprently (according to Marie Claire) the collection will consist of “‘luxury’ pieces with a nod to high-octane glamour.” So watch this space!

The House of Viktor & Rolf
18th June – 21st September 2008
Barbican Art Gallery

“A stunning new exhibition showcasing the work of Dutch fashion designers Viktor & Rolf opens on 18 June. This is the first time in the United Kingdom that an exhibition has been devoted to this highly influential duo. Over the past 15 years Viktor & Rolf have taken the fashion world by storm with their particular blend of cool irony and surreal beauty. The House of Viktor & Rolf presents each of the designer's signature pieces from 1992 to now, shown in a specially commissioned and characteristically theatrical installation that dominates the entire Gallery.”
I am so totally going to this! I love Viktor & Rolf’s stuff; it’s always playful and cutting edge. Here’s some looks from previous years:

Today I watched a documentary about Peggy Lee, called “Fever: The Music of Peggy Lee”, which I greatly enjoyed! I really love her music, especially her early stuff and I thought I would post some videos of some of my favourite songs for you to enjoy! :)

I don’t have a lot of time to do a proper post because I am off to see The Raconteurs tonight with my boyf and some friends, so I thought I would just do a quickie outfit post.

Black and white check shirt – my boyfriend bought this when we went to Stockholm, Red belt vintage – The East End Thrift Store, High-waist red shorts – TopShop, White shoes – Office, Black wayfarers - Lady Luck Rules Ok

Again, I do apologise for the mess in the picture, my bedroom is simply too small for a hoarder like me! In future I will just shift everything out of the way to take the photo; I was just being lazy with this shot.

....I have only just noticed that I have worn black, white and red two days running. I do wear other colours, I swear!

After some sound advice from Selina over at Flying Saucer, I have decided to make outfit posts a common occurrence on my blog. I have a feeling that this is going to be like pulling teeth, because I know how fussy I can be!
As you can see the mirror in my bedroom is less than perfect, plus there is so much stuff I can barely move. I think it is definitely about time I moved out and got my own place! But this is basically my view in the mirror of today’s outfit.

Dress vintage – Absolute Vintage, Belt vintage – The East End Thrift Store, Shoes vintage – Lovecat Vintage.

Then, I tried again out in my back garden, only to find more mess! Don’t ask me why there is a ladder out there. I think it’s just too large to be anywhere else! I’m not sure I’m a big fan of this picture as I seem a lot wider than I actually am!! So maybe I shall use my bedroom mirror for now, and just move the fan out of the way next time, (btw: how much are you loving the weather right now?!?! I’m still preparing it to rain every morning!) because I think it gives the most accurate rendition of the real me!

After a bit of browsing on eBay (it is seriously becoming an addiction!) I came across a store called Sourpuss Vintage. It’s American, which is great news for us because everything is half the price! It’s like a constant sale!!

I think I’m going to buy this plaid dress and just take up the hem so it comes to my knees, because it’s way too long for me as it is. I like the fact that the colours are quite dark because I don’t have many dark clothes. I have 3 black items in my wardrobe: a black vest, a black skirt, and a black dress with small white polka dots!

Today I became the proud owner of these two lovely pairs of shoes:

A pretty pair of red pumps, with a bow on the back.

And a pair of black and white Bally pumps.

I bought them both from a store two friends of mine have called Lovecat Vintage. They both have fantastic taste and style, so I know the stuff they sell is guaranteed to be good. Go and check them out!

There are lots of things that inspire me when it comes to style; it could be anything from what music I am listening to, or certain runway trends, or simply what I have seen other people wearing. So, I was really excited to come across a livejournal user called Calvin (I don’t think that is her real name, her artwork is signed Johanna Öst, so maybe it’s that?) who has a fantastic 50’s style.

These are my favourite pictures; I love the idea of wearing a shirt under a dress like that, I know it’s really simple but I feel like I’d never thought of that before!

Plus, as I said before, I don’t really wear trousers that much but it would be nice to wear ones like these here, they have a really great Audrey Hepburn look.

And finally, I really want to get a cardigan with a (faux) fur collar, I had always thought they were a bit tacky looking, but then I guess it’s whatever you wear it with that makes the look.

Today I received a very large box in the post, containing a book I had recently bought from Amazon.com called Dior: 60 years of style: from Christian Dior to John Galliano. It is MASSIVE!!!! I saw it in the bookshop at the entrance to the Skin + Bones exhibition and it was £90; I knew it would be much cheaper from the internet and, lo and behold, it was £60 on Amazon. I know that is still really expensive for a book, but it is filled with fantastic full page photographs.

I was flicking through yesterdays copy of Fabulous Magazine that comes free with News of the World (I’m a bit behind due to a severe hangover!) and was pleasantly surprised to see a really beautiful spread, so I scanned some pages for you all to enjoy.

I really really reeeeally want this shirt from Asos.com, but – as usual – it’s not even in store yet. I hate it when they do that, because you never know when it’s coming in, and once it does they are all snatched up within 5 minutes and all that’s left are the size 6’s and the size 18’s!!! So I will be keeping my eye out for this one, because I adore how over the top the ruffles are.

This dress from River Island wasn’t on their website either, so I’m not quite sure what the black thing is, or how it really looks; but I like the texture of the skirt. I did a close up so you could see the tiny roses.

The dress in this one is from Miss Selfridges’ vintage collection, which I think is quite over priced and all the truly good stuff that’s actually worth the money is always already sold – who are these people that pinch everything?!?! Anyway, I am really loving the massive corsage, and it has definitely gone on my ever growing list of things to buy! Except I would try to find a cheaper one, as it’s £49 (from Fenwick if you’re interested) or it could be quite a fun DIY project. Oh, and the little sparkly bag is from Oasis; who have a lovely collection of 1950’s inspired dresses. I am coveting the Lily Lane strapless dress, and the Poppy Parker Jones dress - I love the cute names too!

I went to the Skin + Bones exhibition today and it is definitely worth seeing, unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to take any photographs (and couldn’t even take any sneaky ones as there were too many security guards!!!) but the garments there were remarkable; with some fantastic pieces from Hussein Chalayan, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and Boudicca (among others).

Plus I received some shoes through the post that I recently purchased from eBay.
They are in really good condition and they fit perfectly. Yay!

:)

Although I’m waiting for my hair to grow to its desired length, it doesn’t mean I can’t make it look pretty in the mean time!

Patent bow clips from Urban Outfitters £5

Bejewelled bow clip from Anna Lou of London £20

Oh and when I was browsing through Anna Lou’s shop I found the cutest brooch ever, which I just might have to buy!!

Ice cream brooch £10
