I am having a hair dilemma. I am currently trying to grow out my fringe so I can do some 50’s type hairstyles, like victory rolls etc:

I have seen some fantastic videos on YouTube, and my favourites are by ilovegerardo.

But I also really miss my fringe and want to cut it back in! I have seen some really wonderful styles WITH a fringe, so now I am completely torn!

Photos: first one was from a Google search of hairstyles, The Freelancers Fashion Blog.

What do you think?

oh! those big curls and that 50's coiffure always sets the tone for fabulousness!

Couldn't you leave the fringe and then style it with it or incorporating it into the rest of the hair. Either way I always admire girls who make such a concerted effort to look so polished and put together every day...

I think they are both very cute options, but I prefer the ones without fringe. However it is all about how you feel in your hair, and if you think you would feel better rocking the fringe+50's-ness then go for it girl!

I think it depends on how true you want to be to the style- I have a short fringe but I still use barrel or victory rolls to create a 'retro' or 'vintage' look to my hair. If you want a really authentic look then grow your fringe out, otherwise there are ways around it.
That video is fab too, thats how I learnt to do my rolls!

I prefer the style with fringe, but maybe you could just spray the heck out of your fringe until it stays in the rolls? If you do keep the fringe, I really like it Freelancer's way or with Betty Paige-esque bangs. Just my thoughts...all in all the retro hair is gorgeous!

hahaha I had a bit of a shock as well with that picture of mr. Idol, but then I could not take my eyes off it- I mean the man's got guts and style, what more could you ask for for a fashion inspiration? =)

Love these hairstyles! Very pin-up girl :)
But must require large amounts of hairspray, no?

you can grow it out and try the look. then you can always cut it. i am torn with hair issue as well. short or long!

Hey pickle. I love putting my hair in victory rolls and I currently don't have a fringe but I'm considering one and having the same issue.. I've seen plenty of top tutorials on 50s hair from girls who do have fringes and it seems to go well. Maybe looks a little more rockabilly than the more classic style sans fringe but hey - it's still vintage as heck.

To me fringe is more casual while the sleeker victory rolls are more sophisticated and glamourous. It's like...
Mary Anne = Fringe
Ginger = No Fringe

I love you for this video! I am going to be a pin up girl for Halloween and I couldn't very well do that with my hair like it is everyday. If I can manage to style it right I will send you a pic!
